Mika Helios
Yoga Instructor
About Me
In my teachings, I fuse the mystical tradition of yoga with modern approach developed along my life path. I spent 6 months in India, from the southern waters of the Neyyar dam (at Sivananda yoga ashram) of Kerala to the northern banks of the river Ganges in Rishikesh to study yoga and the Indian culture. In this journey, I met amazing teachers, many Indians rooted in the traditional approach and others from all around the world, infusing the modern style. I spent 3 months in Rishikesh, the “capital” of yoga, where I got 500h Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Certificate at World Peace Yoga School and I collaborated with Rohit Kumar at Sanatana Yog Sandesh school. I felt close to Rohit Ji for his incredible wisdom and wise personality and I stayed with him as an apprentice until my visa expired.
In my former life in Milan as an Industrial Designer, I develop a deep attention to the detail and harmony between polarities. Meanwhile I was studying theater and dance, mainly at “Teatro della contraddizione”, an experimental theater school, where I learned and develop to be in contact with the inner world from many perspectives. I loves ecstatic dance, which was a main practice for me while in Goa.
Nowadays I Live in Sofia, where I collaborate with 4 of the main yoga studios.
My classes are a beautiful mixture of asana, meditation, pranayama and sound healing, rooted in the traditional approach and enriched by my own magical life journey.
Classes
In Mika’s class, we come into the breath and quiet the mind as we find steadiness in asana and attain increased balance and an enhanced connection to our highest self as a consequence.
Each class provides personal modifications and includes breathing exercises, sun salutations, preparatory exercises, variations of asanas within a playful, supportive environment. Students are guided into postures slowly and invited to hold them for varying lengths of time, making it suitable for students of all levels. An inward focus is encouraged to allow students to acknowledge how they feel in the postures and to work toward releasing any areas of tension.
Classes open and end with a short chant, and include different kinds of relaxation.
Through the practice we open up to our inner experiences, creating greater emotional stability, and bringing more stillness to our busy minds. We shift easily into a state of peace, harmony, and balance, which can be carried into our day.
